5 key things management students should know
After the completion of higher secondary education, most of the students entering into the management stream struggle to give their best performance due to some very minute but yet important reasons. One of the multiple reasons is due to being new to the stream as students might have joined management after being a science student. Many of the content courses will be new to the students. Here are the 5 things which management students should try to focus on.
I. Information on the subject matter: The first and foremost thing is the subject matter. There will be numerous subjects on different semesters. Undergraduate students will have to face the courses in English, account, mathematics, economics, management, and computer. While reading these courses, they have to make sure that they do learn those subjects in some definite and structured way. For instance, students should try to read and write the articles; listen to BBC podcast i.e. learning section. Likewise, principles of management should be read by thinking of oneself as a manager. Accounting formats, GAAP, IFRS, and NFRS concepts should be taken care of for accounts. Therefore, subjects should be learned by internalizing it.
II. Going through the management’s basic knowledge: The second one is basic knowledge. Generally, we know that when clouds strike, rain is the outcome i.e. the basic knowledge. Likewise, students should possess the basic and minimum requirements which are required for the various subjects. Basic grammar rules, management processes, accounting rules, math formulas, MS-word and use of powerpoint have to be known. It is a kind of threshold things. If you don’t have such basic knowledge then need to buckle up your shoes.
III. Confront the difficulty in the learning process
The third thing is confronting the difficulty. Normally, we don’t like to face challenges. And, that’s the thing which will not let us go ahead in our life. Students understanding the subject matter and also having the basic knowledge may struggle in the path of learning. For example, students will come to know about their problems relating to mathematics, English, accounting terms, computer or on other courses. Therefore, it is better for the students to go and face the obstacles because the struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.
IV. Seek for solutions
The fourth one is seeking for the solutions. Confronting the difficulty and not able to seek the solutions thereafter will obstruct us from achieving the proper knowledge. Searching for the solutions starts right from the class i.e. simply raise the questions on the matter or the topic which you are not clear of. If you don’t get the answers then just don’t stop there, you can ask the same questions to associated faculty provided by the college. Eventually, you will be getting answers for your all unanswered questions. Likewise, you should prioritize your work and give importance to it. For that, you need to learn to say ‘no’ to other unimportant and disturbing things. After all, the problem exists only to be solved so, stay calm and seek positive solutions.
V. Learning in peer
The fifth thing is power circle. We all are in some kind of formal and informal groups at the college. The group may be formed for completion of various kinds of projects as assigned under the courses by the professor. There are many advantages to working in a
In conclusion, being a management student these issues reflect my own story. I had to understand my own problems and tackle them and while I was doing that I figured that the problems that I had are very common among management students but understanding those might be a problem to a lot of us. Therefore, my personal experience says that if any management student understands and tackles with these issues he/she is sure to do a lot better with their management studies. However, self-discipline and strong determination are two keys to unlock the path to success in this regard.
